Best Practices for Using Tags for your Obits
What are Tags?
Post Tags: Refers to micro-categories for your funeral home website / blog, similar to including index entries for a page. Online Obituary Posts with similar tags are linked together when a user clicks one of the tags.
Why Use Tags…
Over time as you mark your obits with tags, there will be index or library of tags.
The more instances of these tags, the more Google will assume you are an authority for that topic including Local Clergy, Cemeteries, nearby towns, and local charities.
Best Practices:
Uniformity is key. Tags are case sensitive – Choose either upper or lower case for all tags and stick to it. Try to use the “most used tags” rather than typing out a new tag
If typing a tag, type it slowly and let it auto-populate.

How To Add Hyperlinks To Online Obits
Step By Step Actions
- Go to edit mode of Online Obituary
- Highlight the word or phrase that you want as the anchor text
- Click on the Link Icon (Chain Link) in the Toolbar
- Type or paste the URL in the box (make sure there is “http://” at the beginning)
- Optional: Add a Title (appears when visitor hovers over the link)
- Optional: Check the box “Open link in a new window/tab” if desired
- Click the “Add Link” button
- Click the “Update” button on the right to update the post.
